I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written, but I’m excited to get the blog going again. I’m enjoying another great season with UMMC Ekaterinburg, where I play during the WNBA offseason. For those that aren’t familiar with the area, we are in Yekaterinburg in central Russia. It’s a nice town with nice people but IT IS COLLLLLLLLLD. -20 degrees on many days. It’s weird how we’ve just gotten used to it though and don’t really think much about it anymore. It’s certainly not LA though!
Our team is off to a great start, going undefeated so far. We have a ton of talent this year and have very high expectations for the season. I get asked about the language a lot online, but as far as basketball is concerned it’s pretty much all in english. We have a number of American players and the coaches speak english, so fortunately we’re all able to communicate well. We normally practice daily and usually have 2 games a week. Our Christmas break will start soon, and we’re all looking forward to getting a little time to relax and take it easy.
Off the court I’ve gotten to do some traveling with the team and still enjoy exploring new cities. We had some free time around our game in Istanbull last week which was really fun. We went shopping, had nice meals out, and really got a chance to get tp know the city a little bit. When I’m home, I’ve got my daughter Lailaa with me (which you obviously know if you’re following me on Twitter :)) and my mom is with me as well to help out, so it’s great to be with family even when so far from home. I’ve been following the NBA closely and watch as many games as I can. I’m also on Twitter and Facebook a lot so I still feel pretty connected to everyone and everything back home.
Gotta run, but thanks for reading and stay tuned for more updates on my site here. As always, I appreciate the support!
